A portable neck fan was the last thing I expected to become one of my favorite travel accessories, but after enough hot days spent sweating my way through airports, theme parks, and outdoor attractions, I finally admitted that I needed a better solution.
I have always been someone who runs hot. Summer travel can be miserable for me. I can step outside and within minutes I am sweating through my shirt. My neck gets sticky, my face gets flushed, and suddenly I am uncomfortable before I have even made it to wherever I am going.
I tried the usual solutions.
Handheld fans made my hand tired. Paper fans barely moved enough air to make a difference. I even tried carrying a spray bottle around, which mostly left me wet while I was still hot.
Then a friend showed up to a barbecue wearing this thing around her neck.
At first, I laughed.
It looked a little like a pair of headphones, and I had no idea what it was supposed to do. She told me it was a neck fan and handed it to me.
I put it on.
Within seconds, I understood why she liked it.
Hands-Free Cooling Without Carrying a Fan
The JISULIFE neck fan sits around your neck, leaving both hands completely free. Instead of holding a fan in front of your face or constantly trying to point one in the right direction, you simply wear it and let it direct air toward your face and neck.
That makes a bigger difference when you are traveling than I expected.
You can walk around with it on, take pictures, carry your luggage, eat, shop, or use your phone without having to hold anything else.
And because the fan sits around your neck, the airflow follows you wherever you go.
It is not the same as walking into an air-conditioned room, of course, but when you are outside on a hot day, having a steady stream of moving air around your face and neck can make the heat much easier to tolerate.
The Bladeless Design Is a Nice Touch

One thing I particularly like about this style of fan is that it does not have exposed blades spinning around your face.
That also means there is less to worry about if you have longer hair.
The neck piece is designed to sit comfortably around your neck, and the overall design is lightweight enough that I can wear it for extended periods without constantly thinking about it.
That matters because the whole point of a hands-free fan is convenience. If it becomes uncomfortable after ten minutes, you are not going to want to wear it.
Multiple Speed Settings
The fan has multiple speed settings, so you can adjust the airflow depending on how hot you are and where you are using it.
The lower settings are useful when you want a little airflow without as much noise. When the temperature really climbs, you can turn it up and get a stronger breeze.
I found that particularly useful outdoors.
At an outdoor event, walking around a theme park, or spending an afternoon sightseeing in the heat, I would rather have the option to increase the airflow than be stuck with one setting.
And when I am somewhere quieter, I can turn it down.
The Battery Makes It Practical for Travel
Battery life is another reason I like having a rechargeable neck fan instead of carrying a small handheld fan that needs to be constantly plugged in.
Depending on the speed setting and how you use it, battery life will vary, so I would check the manufacturer’s current specifications before buying.
For travel, I simply make sure mine is fully charged before leaving for the day.
That way, I can put it around my neck in the morning and have cooling available whenever I need it.
The USB-C charging is also convenient because I already carry USB-C cables for many of my other devices.

Where I Use My Portable Neck Fan
The funny thing is that I originally bought this for summer travel.
Now I use it in all kinds of places.
I have taken it on walks, used it at outdoor events, worn it while gardening, and brought it along when I knew I would be spending several hours outside.
Theme parks are probably one of the situations where I appreciate it most. Walking around outside for hours in hot weather can wear you down quickly. Having a breeze around your face and neck makes the experience much more comfortable.
It is also useful when you are somewhere where carrying a handheld fan would simply be inconvenient.
You do not have to hold it.
You do not have to keep pointing it.
You just put it on and go.
Is the JISULIFE Portable Neck Fan Worth It?
At around $28, I think it is worth considering if you regularly deal with hot weather.
If you live somewhere with mild temperatures or rarely spend time outdoors, you may not have much use for it.
But if you travel during the summer, visit theme parks, attend outdoor events, walk a lot while sightseeing, or simply get uncomfortable in the heat, this is one of those small accessories that can make a surprisingly noticeable difference.
I also like that it is not limited to travel. You can use it at home, while working, walking, exercising lightly, gardening, or doing outdoor activities.
That makes it easier to justify buying than a travel gadget you only use once or twice a year.
I would just keep expectations realistic. A neck fan is not going to replace air conditioning, and it will not make extremely hot weather disappear. What it does is provide personal airflow that can help you feel more comfortable when you are stuck somewhere hot.
For me, that is enough.
I would rather have a little breeze around my face and neck than spend an entire afternoon wishing I could find some shade.
And now that I have gotten used to having a portable neck fan with me, I find myself checking the weather before a trip and making sure it is charged before I leave.
It has become one of those simple travel accessories that I did not think I needed until I actually used one.
